BSA Money-Earning Policies
Section titled “BSA Money-Earning Policies”Key rules all fundraising must follow:
-
Approval required: BSA Unit Money-Earning Application approval is required from both the charter organization and the council before ANY unit fundraising activity. Submit the application at least three weeks before the activity. The annual popcorn sale is pre-approved as a council-sponsored program and does not require an application.
-
No soliciting gifts: Units should not solicit gifts. Donors to units do not receive a charitable tax deduction.
-
Scout accounts: Scouts can credit a reasonable amount of funds earned toward their Scouting expenses. Scouts cannot use funds for non-Scouting purposes and cannot take the money with them if they leave Scouting.
-
Fund current year only: The unit committee’s goal is raising money to fund the current year’s programs — no more, no less.
