Assistant Cubmasters

The Assistant Cubmaster supports the Cubmaster in all aspects of the pack program and is prepared to step in and lead the pack if the Cubmaster is unavailable. The pack uses multiple Assistant Cubmasters, each with a specialized focus area, to distribute the workload and ensure strong coverage across all aspects of the program.


  • Age: At least 18 years old. If the pack has only one Assistant Cubmaster, they must be 21 or older (able to replace the Cubmaster in an emergency)
  • Registration: Must be a registered adult leader of BSA; current with Youth Protection Training
  • Selection: Recommended by the Cubmaster, approved by the pack committee and Charter Org Rep
  • Required Training:
    • Youth Protection Training (YPT) — renew every 2 years
    • Cubmaster Position-Specific Training (same training as Cubmaster, online at my.Scouting.org)
  • Access: Does NOT automatically have bank account access; website/Facebook access as assigned

Core Responsibilities (All Assistant Cubmasters)

  • Help the Cubmaster as needed; be ready to fill in at any time
  • Participate in and help run pack meetings
  • Supervise den chiefs and ensure they are trained
  • Support the policies of the BSA
  • Attend monthly district Roundtable meetings
  • Participate in the annual pack program planning conference and pack leaders’ meetings
