Pinewood Derby
Description
Section titled “Description”The pack’s most logistically complex single event. Scouts partner with a parent or adult mentor to design, carve, paint, and race a wooden car on a regulation track. The event bonds families through the build process and celebrates Scout craftsmanship.
Overview
Section titled “Overview”The Pinewood Derby is one of the most beloved traditions in Cub Scouting. Scouts receive a car kit and work with a parent or adult to design and build their entry — learning woodworking, design, and physics along the way. Race day is a full-family event with grandparents and extended family encouraged to attend. The pack uses an 8-lane track; each car races once in each lane with the winner determined by lowest average time.
