GrandPrix is the race management software used to run the Pinewood Derby. It handles car registration, heat scheduling, timing, standings, and awards.

Overview

GrandPrix Software Central provides software for managing Pinewood Derby races, Raingutter Regatta, and Space Derby events. The software runs on Windows and connects to electronic timing systems or allows manual time entry.

  • Car/Scout registration and lane assignments
  • Automated heat scheduling (round-robin, triple elimination, etc.)
  • Integration with electronic track timers
  • Real-time standings by rank, den, and overall
  • Awards list generation
  • Multiple display modes for audience projection

Getting Started

Section titled “Getting Started”
  1. Download and install the software from grandprix-software-central.com
  2. Register your account — a one-time account setup links your pack to the software
  3. Enter your Scouts — add each Scout by name, den, and car number before race day
  4. Configure the track — set up timer connection (USB or serial) or manual entry mode
  5. Run heats — the software generates heat schedules automatically
  6. Print awards — generate standings and awards lists at the end

Before Race Day

  • Install and test the software at least one week before the event
  • Test the timer connection with the actual track
  • Enter all Scout names in advance so check-in day is faster
  • Print a car number sheet to hand out at check-in

Race Day Tips

  • Have a laptop dedicated to the timing software — don’t use it for anything else during the race
  • Connect a second monitor or projector for audience display of standings
  • Keep a paper backup of times in case of software issues
  • Designate one person as software operator; they should not also be running the track
