Pack Training Requirements by Position
Section titled “Pack Training Requirements by Position”All pack leaders must complete training before working with youth. This resource summarizes required and recommended trainings for each position.
Universal Requirement: Youth Protection Training (YPT)
Section titled “Universal Requirement: Youth Protection Training (YPT)”Every registered adult must complete Youth Protection Training before their application is approved.
- Complete at: my.Scouting.org
- Must be renewed every 2 years
- Print the certificate of completion and attach it to your adult application
- If already registered and current (within 2 years), you do not need to retake it

Note: Coordinator positions under each chair (e.g., Member Recruitment Coordinator, Pinewood Derby Coordinator) follow the same training requirements as their parent chair position — YPT + Pack Committee Challenge at minimum.
BALOO Training
Section titled “BALOO Training”Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) is required before any pack overnight campout — at least one adult present must have completed BALOO.
- BALOO is highly recommended for Cubmaster, Assistant Cubmaster, and Program Chair

Trained Patch
Section titled “Trained Patch”Once position-specific training is complete (YPT + position-specific modules), a leader is considered trained and eligible to wear the Trained patch below their position patch.
