Troop Guide
Role Summary
The Troop Guide is an experienced Scout appointed to work directly with the new-Scout patrol. This Scout serves as a mentor, friend, and guide to help new Scouts learn basic Scouting skills, earn their early ranks, and feel welcome in the troop. The Troop Guide is essential to retaining new members during their critical first year.
Requirements
- Selection: Appointed by the Senior Patrol Leader with Scoutmaster approval
- Rank: Must be First Class or higher
- Training: Should complete Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST)
- Qualities: Patient, skilled in basic Scouting, and enthusiastic about helping new Scouts
Core Responsibilities
- Introduce new Scouts to troop operations and traditions
- Teach basic Scouting skills (knots, first aid, camping, etc.)
- Help new Scouts meet requirements for Scout, Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class ranks
- Attend new-Scout patrol meetings and assist with planning
- Guide the new-Scout patrol at troop meetings and outdoor activities
- Ensure new Scouts are prepared for campouts and other events
- Serve as a role model and encourage new Scouts to stay active in the troop
- Attend Patrol Leaders’ Council meetings as the new-Scout patrol representative
