Popcorn Coordinator
Role Summary
The Popcorn Coordinator (a.k.a. Popcorn Kernel) manages the pack’s annual popcorn sale — the pack’s largest fundraiser. This includes attending the council kickoff, distributing sales materials to Scouts, scheduling Show and Sells with local merchants, collecting orders, picking up and distributing popcorn, and turning money in to the Treasurer by the council deadline. The Popcorn Coordinator works closely with the Treasurer on the financial side of the sale.
Requirements
- Age: 21 years or older
- Registration: Registered adult leader of BSA; current with YPT
- Selection: Selected by the Committee Chair
- Required Training:
- Youth Protection Training (YPT) — renew every 2 years
- Pack Committee Challenge (online at my.Scouting.org)
- Popcorn Kernel Training (provided by your council at the kickoff, if applicable)
- Access: No bank account access; coordinate directly with Treasurer
Core Responsibilities
- Attend the your council popcorn kickoff meeting and year-end wrap meeting
- Distribute sales materials to Scouts; explain rules and prizes
- Schedule Show and Sells with local merchants; schedule Scouts and parents to work Show and Sells
- Acquire pack prizes and incentives for Scout sellers
- Collect orders from Scouts and turn in orders to District Office by the due date
- Pick up popcorn from the district and distribute to Scouts
- Collect money from Scouts and turn it in to the Treasurer
- Get check from Treasurer and turn in to District Office by the council deadline
- Track individual Scout sales for Scout account credit
